Senior Year Of High School - 871 Words

Senior year of high school presents difficulty and stress for most students. Much of this stress steams from the pending decisions they need to make for their future. Choosing a college is a difficult yet exciting process students face as they are about to graduate high school. This process can become even more difficult when family members begin to offer their suggestions. This often consists of parents persuading their children to apply to their own college. I was curious to find out how much of an effect this has on the students overall decision. Through personal interview and secondary research I have found that in most cases, while having an alumni parent does contribute slightly to the decision, other factors impact a student’s decision more then their parents. My initial thought when answering this question was to look at my personal experiences. During my senior year my parents did suggest that I apply to their alma matar. This was not a request I failed to take seriou sly seeing as the university did not have my intended major. I decided to further investigate the university simply to satisfy my parents. I found that not only did the school not offer my intended major, the tuition was extremely over my budget. While I choose not to go to the university my personal experiences show that some students may give into the pressure from their parents and decide to attend their parents university.
